Xingfu Market, Cultural heritage market in Wanhua District, Taiwan.
Xingfu Market is a covered traditional market in Wanhua District, Taipei, sitting at the corner of Siyuan Road and Xingfu East Road. It spans multiple floors, with narrow rows of small stalls selling fresh food, cooked dishes, and everyday household goods.
The market was built in 1935 during the Japanese colonial period, making it one of the oldest still-operating markets in Taipei. It was later recognized as a Historic Site at the Municipality Level, a status that reflects its place in the story of Wanhua District.
Many vendors at Xingfu Market have sold the same products for decades, and some stalls have been passed down within the same family. Walking through the narrow corridors, you can see traditional Taiwanese ingredients like fresh tofu, braised pork cuts, and seasonal greens displayed side by side.
The market sits near Xingfu Station on the Circular Line, and walking from there takes only a few minutes. A morning visit is a good idea, as most stalls open early and the freshest products are available before midday.
The building has kept much of its original colonial-era concrete frame, which is still visible in parts of the structure even as vendors now accept electronic payments. This makes it one of the few markets in Taipei where a 1930s building still serves its original purpose.
