Taipei Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in central Taipei, Taiwan.
Taipei Botanical Garden is a 17-hectare green space in the city center with sections dedicated to aquatic plants, herbs, tropical species, and a central greenhouse displaying multiple plant collections. Visitors can explore distinct zones throughout the grounds.
The grounds began in 1896 as a plant nursery and were renamed in 1921 to their current name. They mark Taiwan's first facility dedicated to botanical research.
The site holds two heritage buildings from the city's past: a relocated Qing Dynasty residence and Taiwan's first plant collection hall from 1924. These structures show how the grounds have served different purposes over time.
The garden opens daily from 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM and sits near Xiaonanmen Metro Station for convenient access. Its central location makes reaching it by public transportation straightforward.
Archaeological work on the grounds revealed human settlements from about 4,500 years ago. The area was once part of an ancient lake called Taipei Lake.
