Taoyuan Main Public Library, Public library in Taoyuan District, Taiwan
Taoyuan Main Public Library is the central public library of Taoyuan District, Taiwan, housed in a modern building with eight floors above ground and two below. Each floor is organized around a specific audience or function, from children's reading rooms to study halls and digital equipment areas.
The library was founded in 1950 and for decades operated under the city's Department of Cultural Affairs. In 2022, it moved to its current building, which was purpose-built to give it more space and independence as a standalone institution.
The library holds collections in several languages, reflecting the diverse community that lives in and around Taoyuan. Visitors from different backgrounds can find reading materials in their own language alongside those in Mandarin.
The library is open longer on weekdays than on weekends, so a visit from Tuesday to Saturday gives more time to explore. Pick up a floor plan at the entrance to find the right section quickly, since the building has many floors with different functions.
The building uses an Eco Tube system that channels natural light into the interior, reducing the need for artificial lighting throughout the day. A MakerSpace on one of the floors lets visitors work with 3D printers and laser engraving machines, which is rarely found in a public library.
