Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at John Shea Field, Baseball stadium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at John Shea Field was a baseball field on the Boston College campus in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. It had a natural grass playing surface and fixed seat-back chairs for spectators.
The field opened in 1961 as the home ground for the Boston College Eagles baseball team. After more than fifty years of use, it was closed and demolished in 2017.
The field carried the names of Eddie Pellagrini, a longtime baseball coach at Boston College, and John Shea, a former football player at the school. Naming a field after people from two different sports is a way the university chose to recognize contributions that went beyond a single team or season.
Since the venue was demolished in 2017, there is nothing left to visit on the former site. Boston College's Chestnut Hill campus remains open to visitors who want to walk through the area where it once stood.
The last game played on the field took place on May 20, 2017, just before demolition began. For several generations of players and coaches, the site was the only baseball home they had ever known at the university.
