Gari Melchers Home

Gari Melchers Home is a house museum set on 27 acres with a main residence, an art studio, and pathways along the Rappahannock River. The property includes galleries and grounds that display both where the artist lived and worked.

The main residence was built in 1800 and originally called Belmont. Artist Gari Melchers and his wife moved here in 1916 after spending years working and living in Europe.

The rooms display artwork created by Melchers alongside furnishings and objects collected during his time abroad. Visitors can see how the couple blended their European experiences with life in Virginia.

Guided tours are available throughout the property to help visitors understand the spaces and collections. The grounds are walkable and the location sits conveniently near Falmouth with easy access from the main road.

The five-sided sun porch has four arched windows positioned to flood the interior with natural light for the artist's work. This thoughtful design reveals how important proper lighting was to Melchers' creative practice.
