Union Church and Cemetery, Federal style church and cemetery in Falmouth, Stafford County, US.
Union Church is a Federal-style religious building with a surviving narthex section and an original stairway leading to a gallery above. The three-acre property includes the church structure and its adjoining burial ground with numerous historical graves.
Two earlier Anglican churches occupied the site in 1733 and 1750 before the current building was constructed in 1819. The property reflects a long continuous presence of religious life in this region spanning nearly three centuries.
The burial ground displays headstones that document the lives of community members across generations. The inscriptions and markers tell stories of people who lived in this area and left their mark on it.
The site sits at the corner of Carter Street and Butler Road and is straightforward to locate. Keep in mind this is a cemetery and historic site, so visitors should dress appropriately and conduct themselves respectfully.
A severe rainstorm in 1950 caused major damage to the building structure and destroyed portions of it. Despite this loss, the narthex section survived and is still preserved for visitors to see today.
