Greenbrier State Park

Greenbrier State Park is a nature reserve in Boonsboro, Maryland. The park spans about 1,400 acres (566 hectares) and centers on a 42-acre (17-hectare) freshwater lake with a sandy beach, all set within forested slopes of South Mountain.

The park was developed between 1964 and 1978 through significant state investment in facilities and land acquisition. This period marked the establishment of this land as a public recreation area.

The park maintains ten trails of varying difficulty levels, including a section of the Appalachian Trail crossing through its boundaries.

You can swim, fish, camp, hike, and mountain bike here, with boat rentals available in the warmer months. Trails range from easy to challenging, so there is something suitable for different fitness levels.

In 2008, concrete culverts were built beneath Keadle Road specifically to allow box turtles to cross safely. This reflects an unusual commitment to protecting small wildlife moving through the park.
