Harrison Apartment Building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Washington, D.C

The Harrison Apartment Building is a residential structure built over a century ago in the Judiciary Square area, featuring Victorian style architecture from the late 1800s. It combines design elements inspired by rowhouses with a layout for multiple families, representing an early approach to dense urban housing in the city.

The building was constructed over a century ago as one of the city's early structures designed for multiple families to live together. After standing vacant for more than two decades and deteriorating, it underwent careful restoration to preserve its original character while being adapted for new use as a hotel.

The building carries details from the late 1800s, including ornamental columns and curved brick ceilings that show the craftsmanship of its time. These features remain visible today and help visitors understand the construction methods and design values of that era.

The building is accessible to visitors and shows how restoration work added modern systems like elevators and updated infrastructure while keeping historic details visible. Located near public transportation and other attractions in the Judiciary Square area, it is easy to reach and explore.

Four Corinthian columns on the upper floors were carefully preserved during restoration as key architectural signatures of the original design. The street-level entry also retains restored features from a former drugstore that once occupied the ground floor, offering a glimpse into the building's mixed-use past.
