Harrison Hills Park

Harrison Hills Park is a county park spread across roughly 524 acres of forest, with waterfalls and multiple trails winding through natural landscapes near the Allegheny River. The park features picnic areas with tables and grills connected by paths, some of which are accessible for wheelchairs.

The park officially opened in 1971 when Allegheny County established it as part of efforts to maintain green spaces for public recreation and conservation. This creation reflected the region's growing commitment to preserving natural areas for future generations.

The Environmental Learning Center serves as a hub where visitors engage with the local ecosystem and learn about the region's natural environment through hands-on exploration. People use observation areas along the trails to watch animals and plants in their natural setting.

The park opens at 8:00 AM and closes at sunset daily, with ample parking available near the main areas. Many trails are suitable for wheelchairs and families, though some paths remain unpaved for a more natural experience.

Birdwatchers have documented roughly 182 different bird species within the park since 1970, making it a significant location for people interested in ornithology. This exceptional variety reflects the park's importance as a habitat for migratory and resident birds.
