Laura Ingalls Wilder House
Laura Ingalls Wilder House, Historic house museum in Mansfield, Missouri, United States
The Laura Ingalls Wilder House is a white farmhouse with several levels, dormers, and gable windows in Mansfield, Missouri. The building has ten rooms and includes several porches constructed with materials sourced from the surrounding area.
Almanzo Wilder built the house between 1895 and 1912 on land the family started farming in 1894. The author lived here until her death in 1957 and wrote all her childhood memoirs in these rooms.
The name Rocky Ridge Farm refers to the rocky terrain the Wilder family cleared and cultivated themselves. Visitors can walk through the rooms where the author wrote her stories and see the furniture she used in daily life.
The museum displays personal belongings, handwritten manuscripts, and furniture owned by the family. Guided tours of the property offer insight into the writer's life and work.
The Rock Cottage on the property served as the family's first home before the larger farmhouse was completed. A short path of about a third of a mile (500 m) connects both buildings through the original farmland.
