Pensmore, Private mansion in Highlandville, Missouri, United States
Pensmore is a private mansion in the Châteauesque style located in the Ozark Mountains near Highlandville, Missouri. The five-story concrete building holds 13 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms across roughly 72,200 square feet (6,710 square meters).
Construction began in 2008 and finished in 2016 after several legal disputes over building materials and construction methods. The owner wanted to create a structure that could stand for centuries.
The name joins the word for thought and the word for continuation, showing the owner's wish for a place where ideas are discussed. The residence remains private property and is not open to visits or public events.
The outer walls are roughly 12 inches (30 centimeters) thick and contain steel fibers designed to protect the building from earthquakes, tornadoes, and fire. The property sits on a hilltop and is visible from the road, but access is not permitted.
The building was designed to last two thousand years and uses a special concrete mix rarely found in other residential construction. The construction method was intended as a model for future buildings that can withstand extreme weather conditions.
