Wildfire, Steel roller coaster at Silver Dollar City, Missouri
Wildfire is a steel coaster with a brown track that features five inversions, including an immelmann loop, vertical loop, cobra roll, and corkscrew turn. The entire ride covers almost 3,100 feet of track and creates multiple intense moments in succession.
The coaster opened on April 4, 2001, as the park's largest single investment at that time with a budget of 14 million dollars. This represented a major milestone in Silver Dollar City's expansion.
The coaster tells the story of Dr. Horatio Harris, a fictional 1880s Ozark inventor who created special fuels for flying machines. This invented backstory gives the ride an adventure theme that connects to the park's frontier setting.
The coaster uses two trains with eight cars each, seating four riders per row and secured by over-the-shoulder restraints. A minimum height of 52 inches is required to ride.
The coaster cleverly uses the hillside terrain to create a 155-foot opening drop despite the lift hill being only 120 feet tall. This works because the track is built down into the sloping ground.
