Stambaugh Stadium, Football stadium in Youngstown, US.
Stambaugh Stadium is a football stadium on the campus of Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. It has a covered main grandstand on the west side and an artificial turf field used for games and practice.
The stadium opened in 1982, replacing an older athletic field on campus. It was expanded in 1997 to add more seating, in response to growing interest in the university's football program.
The stadium is home to the Youngstown State University Penguins football team, and on game days the stands fill with students, families, and people from the surrounding area. The noise and energy of those afternoons make it one of the most recognizable parts of campus life.
The stadium sits in the middle of campus and is easiest to reach by car. On game days, arriving early gives you a better chance of finding parking close to the venue.
The stadium is known locally as the Ice Castle, a nickname that comes from the pale color of its exterior. This name is so common in everyday conversation that locals often use it without mentioning the official name at all.
