Medbury's-Grove Lawn Subdivisions Historic District, Residential historic district in Highland Park, Michigan.
Medbury's-Grove Lawn is a residential district in Highland Park containing over 250 preserved homes arranged along Eason, Moss, and Puritan Streets between Hamilton and Woodward Avenues. Most structures are single-family houses with garages and sheds positioned behind the main buildings on each property.
The district grew in the early 1920s as automobile manufacturing drew workers to Highland Park and created demand for housing. The development was shaped by the need to provide affordable homes for the growing workforce employed at nearby factories.
The neighborhood displays a mix of Bungalows with Craftsman details and English cottages built between 1914 and 1924. Walking through the streets, you can see how these different building styles blend together to create a varied and character-filled residential area.
Most homes are visible from the streets and form a cohesive area that is easy to explore on foot. There is plenty of space for walking and observing the different architectural details across the neighborhood.
Developer William W. Hannan deliberately created these subdivisions as affordable homes for factory workers rather than luxury estates. His approach allowed working families to live close to their places of employment.
