Muskegon State Park

Muskegon State Park is a lakeside nature area spread across 1,470 acres along Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake, featuring forested dunes and natural pathways. The grounds include two campgrounds, picnic areas, hiking trails, and swimming beaches for different types of visitors.

The park was established in 1923 as part of Michigan's conservation efforts to protect natural areas. During the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps built structures including a blockhouse that remain part of the site today.

The park has long served as a gathering place for outdoor recreation in the region and reflects how locals connect with nature year-round. Winter brings special attention to the landscape, when ice sports and seasonal activities become central to how visitors experience the land.

The park is accessible year-round, with the best conditions for hiking and swimming during warmer months. In winter, visitors can enjoy ice activities, though they should prepare for cold weather and slippery terrain.

The park features a specialized ice track designed by Olympic athletes, making it a rare venue for winter sports training. Visitors with mobility limitations can use track chair services to access sandy beaches and snowy areas comfortably.
