Phelps Mill, Historic watermill in Otter Tail County, United States.
Phelps Mill is a three-story wooden structure standing beside the Otter Tail River, containing original milling machinery and equipment inside. A concrete dam built in 1908 controls the water flow that powered the mill's operations.
William Thomas built this mill in 1889 as Maine Roller Mills, designing it for significant flour production. Operations ceased in 1939 after decades of serving as an important regional facility.
The mill reflects Minnesota's heritage of grain processing, when water-powered mills served as centers of rural communities. It shows how local mills once anchored the region's agricultural way of life.
The site is open from May through October with picnic areas and fishing available along the river. Visitors should be aware that seasonal weather conditions may affect site accessibility during these months.
Each August, a local organization hosts an ice cream social with live band concerts and community gatherings at the site. This annual event draws visitors interested in exploring both the history and local traditions together.
