Scooby's Ghoster Coaster, Steel roller coaster in Kings Island, Ohio
Scooby's Ghoster Coaster is a steel roller coaster designed for children at Kings Island amusement park in Ohio. It is built as a suspended coaster, meaning the cars hang below the track and swing slightly from side to side as they move.
The ride opened in 1998 and was the first suspended coaster of its kind built specifically for younger children. It was developed by manufacturer Caripro, which adapted the suspended coaster format to suit very young riders.
The ride takes its name from Scooby-Doo, a cartoon dog that many children already know from television. Walking through the themed area, visitors notice decorations and figures drawn directly from the cartoon series.
Children need to meet a minimum height requirement to ride, which most early elementary school kids can reach. The ride sits in a section of the park that is easy to walk to, and the whole experience is over in under a minute.
What sets this ride apart from other children's coasters is the lift system, which raises the cars slowly before sending them into controlled descents rather than using a sudden drop. For many children, this is their first coaster experience, and the ride was built with that in mind.
