King Cobra, Steel roller coaster at Kings Island, Ohio, US.
King Cobra was a standing steel roller coaster at Kings Island in Ohio, featuring a vertical loop, camelback hills, and a 540-degree helix. The ride traveled across approximately 2,219 feet of track at roughly 50 miles per hour.
This ride opened in April 1984 as the first Japanese Togo coaster installation in the United States. It remained in operation until its closure in November 2001.
The green and yellow snake-themed appearance of this coaster matched the Adventure Village area of Kings Island, where guests could view live animals during their visit.
Riders had to stand throughout this experience, with a minimum height requirement of 54 inches enforced. The coaster accommodated approximately 1,250 passengers per hour during peak operation.
Engineers first built a prototype called Astro-Comet in Tokyo, which they later dismantled and reassembled at Kings Island. This construction approach was unusual for American parks at that time.
