Firehawk, Steel roller coaster at Kings Island, Mason, US
Firehawk was a steel roller coaster at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, that placed riders in a horizontal flying position during the ride. The track featured five inversions and reached a height of 115 feet (35 meters), with passengers starting on their backs before tilting forward into flight.
The ride opened in 2001 as X-Flight at Geauga Lake and moved to Kings Island in 2007, operating there until October 2018. The relocation followed Cedar Fair's acquisition of Geauga Lake, which led to the park's restructuring and the transfer of several attractions.
The roller coaster became part of Kings Island's transformation under Cedar Fair ownership, marking the first new attraction after the park changed management.
The ride used specially designed seats that positioned passengers on their backs before the train launched and tilted them forward during the journey. A dual loading station allowed the park to load two trains at once and reduce wait times.
The ride began with passengers lying on their backs looking up before the seats tilted forward during the climb. This mechanism gave riders the sensation of soaring above the track rather than sitting on it.
