Banshee, Steel roller coaster at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio
Banshee is a steel roller coaster at Kings Island amusement park in Mason, Ohio. The track climbs to 51 meters (167 feet) and runs for 1257 meters (4124 feet) with seven inversions, reaching speeds up to 109 kilometers per hour (68 mph).
The ride opened on April 18, 2014, on the site previously occupied by Son of Beast, a wooden roller coaster demolished in 2012. At the time of opening, it held the record as the longest inverted coaster in the world.
The name draws from an Irish spirit known for its wailing cry that foretells death. Fog drifts across the layout during operation, adding to the eerie mood created by the dark purple and blue color scheme.
The ride runs three trains that can each hold 32 people and operate at the same time, reducing wait times during full operation. Visitors must place loose items in lockers before boarding, as they cannot be secured during the ride.
The pretzel knot ranks among the most complex elements of its kind, guiding riders through a tightly wound shape resembling a twisted pretzel. Part of the layout also wraps around the lift hill, sending trains racing through the same area multiple times.
