Peters Cartridge Company, Industrial heritage site in Kings Mills, Ohio, United States
Peters Cartridge Company is a former industrial site in Kings Mills, Ohio, made up of several brick buildings with large factory windows along the Little Miami River. The complex extends over roughly a 2-mile canal section that once supplied water power for production.
The plant opened in 1887 and manufactured ammunition for military operations during World War I and World War II. After closing in 1944, the buildings stood empty for decades until they were eventually converted into housing.
The former ammunition plant shows how American industrial sites transform into residential neighborhoods after their original purpose ends. Today the site combines the straightforward shapes of old factory halls with the needs of modern residents who live between former production rooms and bicycle path.
The complex sits directly along the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail, making access easy for cyclists and walkers. The converted halls with their high ceilings and large windows offer plenty of natural light and space inside.
The factory buildings stood deliberately at wider intervals from each other along the canal to limit damage from possible explosions during ammunition production. This spatial arrangement remains visible today in the loose distribution of structures along the riverbank.
