Untermyer Park, Urban park in Yonkers, US.
Untermyer Park is a garden in Yonkers along the Hudson River that spreads across a hillside with views of the Palisades. The site connects several terraces with fountains, an open-air theater, and different garden rooms linked by stairs and paths.
Samuel Untermyer bought the estate in the early 20th century and had it transformed by William Bosworth into a garden with classical elements. The city of Yonkers later took over the grounds and opened them to the public.
The Walled Garden follows a Persian plan with water channels that represent paradise running between symmetrical beds. Visitors still see the original layout with flower borders and seating areas that invite quiet contemplation.
The garden sits on a hillside, so stairs and steep paths lead up and down between the different levels. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and bring water in warm weather, as shade is not always available.
The Temple of the Sky consists of columns originally imported from Greece that form a circular walkway with views over the river. The bronze elements inside were made specifically for this pavilion.
