Wade Memorial Chapel

The Wade Memorial Chapel is a neoclassical structure built from white granite with fluted ionic columns framing its entrance. The building contains an underground crypt level with compartments lined with blue stone and white marble surfaces for burial purposes.

The chapel was commissioned in 1898 by Jeptha Wade II to honor his grandfather, founder of Western Union Telegraph Company. This memorial stands within Lake View Cemetery and marks the prominence of the family in the city's past.

The interior walls showcase elaborate Tiffany glass mosaics depicting biblical scenes. Visitors can observe these colorful works as they move through the space and study their intricate details.

The cemetery is accessible on foot and the chapel sits in a quiet spot among trees and older graves. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, especially due to the large outdoor staircase leading to the entrance.

The broad front staircase was carved from a single stone block, which represents a rare feat of craftmanship. This massive structural element demonstrates the care taken in constructing the memorial.
