B&B Carousell, Historic carousel in Coney Island, Brooklyn, United States
The B&B Carousell is a wooden carousel in Coney Island, Brooklyn, featuring fifty hand-carved horses and two chariots arranged in eighteen sections. The structure rotates around a central mechanism and sits within Luna Park along the boardwalk.
William F. Mangels built this carousel between 1906 and 1909, with Marcus Illions creating the original horse sculptures. One horse received a commemorative saddle in 1908 marking President Abraham Lincoln's centennial.
Visitors still ride this carousel today, experiencing entertainment traditions that once defined Coney Island's amusement scene. The hand-carved horses display ornamental details typical of early 1900s craftsmanship.
The carousel is located within Luna Park near the boardwalk and is accessible to visitors throughout the day. Children under 42 inches (107 centimeters) in height should be accompanied by an adult to ride.
This carousel is one of the last still operating at this location and has survived decades of changes in the amusement industry. Its continued operation makes it a rare surviving example of the original Coney Island experience.
