The three-story red brick building features original wooden ceilings, columns, and industrial architectural elements dating from its 1880 construction period.
William Durant and Josiah Dort established their carriage manufacturing business in this facility in 1886, which led to the formation of General Motors in 1908.
The building now houses the Kettering University automotive archives, containing 100,000 documents and artifacts from Flint's early transportation industry.
Factory One functions as a conference center accommodating 300 people, primarily serving community organizations, education groups, and vintage automobile clubs.
The structure maintains its original industrial character while incorporating modern amenities through a 3-million-dollar restoration completed in 2017.
