Atwood Stadium

Atwood Stadium is a sports venue in the Carriage Town district of downtown Flint, located near the Kettering University campus. The facility has seating for about 11,000 people and features a FieldTurf playing surface with field markings for regulation high school football, soccer, and lacrosse.

Edwin W. Atwood donated land for the stadium's construction in 1929, and it initially hosted preseason games for the Detroit Tigers baseball team and the Detroit Lions football team. These early professional connections established the venue as an important sports site in the region.

The stadium hosts the annual Vehicle City Gridiron Classic at the start of high school football season, drawing multiple local teams together for a significant regional competition.

The stadium is located in an accessible downtown area of Flint and easy to reach from nearby streets. Keep in mind that it primarily hosts scheduled games and events during the sport seasons rather than remaining open for casual visits.

A Thanksgiving Day game between local rivals Flint Central and Flint Northern drew a record crowd of about 20,600 spectators in 1950. This legendary matchup remains notable in local sports history for the extraordinary fan turnout it generated.
