The Idle, Urban observation park near Cultural Trail, Indianapolis, United States.
The Idle is an observation park featuring a limestone pathway that leads to a viewing platform furnished with bright orange stadium seats. From this vantage point, visitors look down at the interstate highways I-65 and I-70 where they intersect.
The park came into being following a successful crowdfunding initiative that started its operations in September 2018. This community-driven effort shaped how the space was built and designed.
The seats come from the former Bush Stadium, linking this place to Indianapolis sports history through recycled materials. Visitors sit on these repurposed stadium pieces while overlooking the highways below.
The park sits at 800 Virginia Avenue between Fletcher Place and Fountain Square neighborhoods, with direct access from the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. It connects easily to local walking paths and is straightforward to reach.
The park offers a rare chance to watch the endless stream of traffic at the highway intersection from a quiet seating area. Benches crafted from local ash wood provide comfortable spots to take in this unusual view.
