Union Station arch, Historic arch in Columbus, Ohio

This sandstone arch stands 35 feet high and 46 feet wide, featuring intricate sculptural details and Corinthian columns that exemplify late 19th-century Beaux-Arts architectural craftsmanship.

Designed by Daniel Burnham in 1897 as part of the original Union Station complex, this arch served as the main entrance until the station's demolition in 1976.

The arch represents Columbus's rail heritage and serves as a cultural landmark that embodies the city's development during the golden age of American railroad transportation.

Located in McFerson Commons Park in the Arena District, the arch is accessible to visitors via local transit routes and offers opportunities for photography and historical education.

This structure is the sole surviving remnant of what was historically recognized as the world's first union station, making it an irreplaceable piece of American transportation history.
