Michael B. Coleman Government Center, Government building in downtown Columbus, United States
The Michael B. Coleman Government Center is a modern administrative building in downtown Columbus with an eight-story glass tower and a three-story limestone section. It houses four municipal departments including Building and Zoning Services, Public Service, Development, and Public Utilities in a single location.
The building opened in 2018, replacing an older municipal structure at 109 N Front Street that suffered from structural issues and housed departments across multiple locations. The new facility consolidated all services into a single, centralized location.
Local artwork decorates the interior spaces, creating a connection between municipal functions and community creativity. This artistic presence makes the administrative experience feel more welcoming and personal for visitors.
The building is easy to navigate with clear signage directing visitors to each municipal department. It helps to plan your visit in advance to know which department you need and where to find it.
The roof features living vegetation that helps regulate the building's temperature, and the entire complex earned LEED Silver certification for its sustainable construction and operational methods. These features demonstrate how modern buildings can integrate environmental responsibility into daily operations.
