Perryville Tavern, Historic tavern in Union Township, US
The Federal-style brick structure at 167 Perryville Road features symmetrical design elements, traditional windows, and classic architectural proportions throughout its two and half stories.
Built in 1813 by Cornelius Carhart along a stagecoach route, the tavern received its name from naval commander Oliver Hazard Perry's victory at Lake Erie.
The establishment operated as a public gathering space until 1900, when it transformed into a private residence before becoming a restaurant in later years.
The tavern stands 1000 feet south of its original location, having been moved in 1960 to accommodate the construction of Interstate 78.
Local artist William Bonnell created a tavern sign displaying Andrew Jackson's portrait alongside an American flag for this Federal-style building.
