Giant Drop, Drop tower ride in Six Flags Great America, Gurnee, US.
The Giant Drop stands 227 feet tall, making it the second highest structure at Six Flags Great America, behind only Sky Trek Tower.
The ride opened on April 26, 1997, as part of a three-phase development plan for the Southwest Territory area of Six Flags Great America.
In 1997, 144 couples participated in a mass ceremony at the Southwest Territory Amphitheater before taking their first plunge on the Giant Drop.
Riders must be at least 48 inches tall to experience the vertical descent, which reaches speeds of 62 miles per hour during its 205-foot drop.
The attraction incorporates magnetic brakes for its landing system, creating a controlled deceleration as riders complete their vertical plunge.
