X-Flight, Steel roller coaster at Six Flags Great America, Illinois, US.
X-Flight is a steel coaster at Six Flags Great America that stretches 910 meters with a peak height of 37 meters. Two trains with 32 riders each operate on the track, positioned on both sides in a wing configuration that creates an open-air sitting arrangement.
The ride opened in May 2012, replacing two earlier attractions called Splashwater Falls and Great American Raceway. This addition brought the park a new generation of coaster technology with its wing-style design.
The ride's theme celebrates flight through its design elements, including a control tower structure that the track passes through. This visual connection helps visitors understand the concept as they move through the park.
Visit early in the morning or late afternoon when lines tend to be shorter and conditions are more pleasant. Riders should secure loose items and familiarize themselves with the safety requirements posted at the entrance.
The wing-style seating places riders on both sides of the track with nothing beneath or above them, creating a genuine sensation of flying particularly during the inversions. This arrangement was relatively new to theme parks when it debuted.
