Mardi Gras Hangover, Amusement ride at Six Flags Great America, Gurnee, US.
Mardi Gras Hangover was a motorized amusement ride at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, where riders sat face-to-face on a large circular track and swung forward and backward. The movement was powered by motorized wheels rather than gravity, which set it apart from a standard swing ride.
The ride opened in May 2018, replacing an earlier attraction called King Chaos that had stood in the same spot. It stayed in operation until October 2023, when it was taken out of service.
The ride's name plays on the idea of recovering after a Mardi Gras celebration, fitting its spot in the park's New Orleans-themed section. Visitors could see festive decorations around the area that echoed the colors and mood of that Louisiana tradition.
Riders needed to meet a minimum height of about 48 in (122 cm) to board this ride. Those sensitive to strong swinging or spinning sensations may want to keep that in mind when choosing similar attractions.
Although this type of ride is sometimes compared to a roller coaster, it had no traditional track and worked on a completely different mechanical principle. The Fire Ball name given to this model refers to the shape of the circular path the gondolas trace during the ride, which resembles a spinning ball of fire.
