Apocalypse, Stand-up steel roller coaster at Six Flags America, Prince George's County, US.
Apocalypse is a stand-up steel roller coaster located at Six Flags America in Prince George's County. The ride takes passengers through multiple inversions and twists while they stand upright with their legs dangling freely in the air.
The roller coaster was built in 1990 by the engineering firm Bolliger & Mabillard. After operating for over two decades under the name Iron Wolf, it was relocated to Six Flags America in 2012 and given its current name.
The name references apocalyptic mythology, giving the ride a dramatic thematic concept. Visitors notice this thematic choice reflected in how the attraction is presented and promoted.
Riders must meet a minimum height requirement of 54 inches and should prepare for standing throughout the entire ride. It is wise to secure any loose items, as these can easily fall during a stand-up coaster experience.
The ride underwent a major redesign in 2019 and received new trains with a different riding system. Although the original track was kept, the riding experience changed significantly due to the new configuration.
