Greenside School, Grade II* listed primary school in Hammersmith, England
Greenside School is a primary school building featuring a reinforced concrete frame with brick infill located on Westville Road. The structure showcases large windows and modern architectural elements that allow natural light to fill the interior spaces.
The current building was completed in 1952 by architect Ernő Goldfinger and replaced an earlier Victorian school. The original school from 1886 was destroyed during World War II, necessitating reconstruction on the same site.
The school features a notable ceiling mural created by artist Gordon Cullen that fills the interior with colorful visual art. This artwork was carefully restored in 2014 to preserve its artistic qualities for students and visitors.
The building is located on Westville Road and is easily accessible by public transport in Hammersmith. Visitors should know that this is an active school site normally open to the public only during special events or open days.
The building was designed by renowned architect Ernő Goldfinger, known for his brutalist and modernist designs. This makes the school an exemplary work of post-war modernism in London that architecture enthusiasts appreciate.
