Sharavathi LTM Wildlife Sanctuary, Wildlife refuge in Karnataka, India.

The Sharavathi LTM Wildlife Sanctuary is a large forest area in the Western Ghats with thick evergreen vegetation covering rolling terrain. The Sharavathi River winds through the sanctuary, creating different habitats for the animals and plants that live here.

This protected area was established in 1972 to safeguard the forest and its wildlife. Over time, it grew to include more endangered species and their habitats.

For the local communities living near this place, the forest represents not just a resource but a home where traditional ways of life and animal protection go hand in hand. The people here see themselves as guardians of the woods, and their daily routines are tied to respecting the creatures that share the land.

You can reach this place most easily from Sagara town, which is connected by bus to larger cities nearby. The best time to visit is during the drier months when paths are easier to walk and animals are easier to spot.

This sanctuary is known for rare swamp forests with a special plant community found nowhere else. These wetland forests are home to endangered lion tailed macaques, a species that survives in just a handful of places.
