Fantasy Gardens, Amusement park in Richmond, Canada
Fantasy Gardens was an amusement park in Richmond featuring stone buildings with medieval styling, surrounded by ornamental gardens and a miniature railroad for exploring the grounds. The park offered visitors a themed space with religious symbols integrated throughout its structures and landscaping.
Bill Vander Zalm purchased the property in 1984 and transformed it into a Christian-themed park with religious symbols throughout the gardens and buildings. The park shaped an era of entertainment in the region before the site was eventually redeveloped for residential use.
The stone structures and Dutch castle replica served as filming locations for television series including Stargate SG-1 and Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge. These settings attracted filmmakers and remain connected to popular entertainment history.
The former park location at Steveston Highway and No. 5 Road now contains residential buildings and a supermarket. Visitors can explore the area and learn that a public park development is planned for the site.
The preserved Dutch castle replica was modeled after Coevorden Castle from the Netherlands and is now used as a municipal daycare center in Richmond. This unexpected repurposing shows how historical structures find new functions in their communities.
