Queen's Bridge, Perth, Road bridge in Perth, Scotland
Queen's Bridge is a road crossing over the River Tay in Perth that connects the western side of the city to Bridgend on the eastern bank. It carries vehicles and people along South Street and forms a key passage through the town's street network.
The bridge opened in 1960 and replaced an older crossing that had served the area since the early 1900s. It was the first major prestressed concrete bridge of its kind built in Scotland at that time.
The crossing links two parishes and forms part of the daily route people take through the town center. It has become an ordinary part of how locals and visitors move between the western and eastern sides of Perth.
The crossing is accessible to both drivers and people on foot and sits on a main street through town. Walking from the city center takes only a few minutes to reach either approach.
During construction, the previous bridge had to be lifted up to make room for building the new crossing. This engineering challenge required raising the older structure while keeping it temporarily functional.
