Berd Rocks

Berd Rocks stretch along the right bank of the Berd River for about 1.3 kilometers, displaying limestone cliffs that rise roughly 300 meters above the valley floor. The site shows a mix of steppe terrain and mixed pine-birch forest, with the river winding through the rocky landscape below.

This site received official protection status as a natural monument in 2000 to preserve its distinctive combination of steppe and forest ecosystems. The designation reflected the region's commitment to safeguarding the ecological balance found in this valley system.

The main viewpoint here is called Zveroboi by local people, reflecting how the community has connected with this landscape over time. The name itself carries meaning rooted in the region's traditions and the way people experience the river and forest views from this spot.

You can reach the site by train or bus to Iskitim, then local transport will take you to Novososedovo village, which sits about 4 kilometers away. The terrain here is steep and uneven, so sturdy footwear is essential for walking safely along the cliff paths and viewing areas.

The site hosts around 49 moss species, with many of these bryophytes found only here within the entire Novosibirsk Oblast region. This botanical detail makes it a place of particular interest for those studying or appreciating the smaller plants that thrive in these rocky cliffs.
