Novosibirsk Oblast, Administrative region in southwestern Siberia, Russia.
Novosibirsk Oblast occupies the West Siberian Plain and includes the Baraba Lowland in the northern section and the Kulunda Lowland in the south. The Ob River crosses the region and forms the Ob Reservoir, while numerous smaller waterways shape the flat terrain.
The oblast formed in 1937 after separating from the Western Siberian Territory and grew into a major industrial hub during World War II. Numerous factories relocated here from western parts of the country and contributed to the industrialization of Siberia.
Akademgorodok, the scientific district south of Novosibirsk city, contains numerous research institutes and Novosibirsk State University, forming a center of scientific advancement point.
The region connects through the Trans-Siberian Railway and Tolmachevo Airport, while urban transport networks support movement within settlements. Summer months offer milder conditions for travel, though Siberian winters bring extreme temperatures.
Lake Chany in the western part of the oblast changes in size and salinity depending on rainfall and evaporation, as it has no outlet. Local fishermen have used the waters for generations and adapted their methods to the shifting conditions.
