Berdsk, Industrial center in Novosibirsk Oblast, Russia
Berdsk is an industrial town in southwestern Novosibirsk Oblast, Siberia, spread across both banks of the Berd River. The built-up areas extend over gently rolling terrain at roughly 130 meters elevation and include residential neighborhoods, factory sites, and smaller parks along the watercourse.
The settlement was established in 1716 as a fortified outpost during Russian eastward expansion. Over the centuries it evolved from a military station into a trading hub and later into an industrial site.
The local museum holds documents and objects from different periods of the town's development, showing everyday life of past generations. Visitors see reconstructed workshops and living spaces that illustrate life in a Siberian trading post and later in a growing industrial town.
Regular bus lines connect the town with the center of Novosibirsk, so travelers can cover the route without difficulty. Most public areas are reachable on foot, and streets remain cleared even in winter.
Some older wooden houses in the town center still carry carved window frames that recall the carpentry tradition. These houses stand among newer buildings and show how Siberian craftsmen decorated their facades.
