Gyeongui Line Forest Park, Linear park in Mapo District, South Korea

Gyeongui Line Forest Park is a linear green space that runs for about one kilometer along former railway tracks, planted with small ponds, streams, and ginkgo trees. The path winds through neighborhoods, creating a verdant corridor with natural features that connect the urban areas on either side.

The park occupies the former Gyeongui railway line, a track over 100 years old that was moved underground during Seoul's urban renewal project. The transformation of this abandoned rail corridor into green space shows how the city converted old infrastructure into a public amenity for residents.

The park links Hongdae and Yeonnam-dong neighborhoods and serves as a gathering place where locals, musicians, and artists meet regularly. You can see people sitting on benches, small performances happening along the path, and the space shaped by community activities.

The park can be reached from Hongik University Station, with exit 3 leading directly to the Yeonnam-dong section. Visit during daytime when lighting is good and the surrounding cafes and restaurants are open and lively.

The park is an example of urban recovery: an industrial corridor once forgotten became celebrated after its conversion, now attracting photographers drawn to its blend of nature and remnants of railway infrastructure. You can still spot weathered signals and rail fragments that tell the story of its industrial past.
