En Bas Saut waterfall, Rainforest waterfall in Soufrière Quarter, Saint Lucia.
En Bas Saut is a waterfall in the Edmund Forest Reserve that plunges about 7 meters into a natural pool. The water is surrounded by thick tropical forest, creating an isolated spot where the jungle closes in on all sides.
The waterfall served as an important gathering place for Saint Lucia's original inhabitants long before European colonization. Water and forest held meaning in the daily life and traditions of early island residents.
Local residents maintain traditional practices near the waterfall, including collecting spring water and sharing stories about the natural landmark.
The route to the waterfall follows a marked trail with steep slopes, wooden steps, and river crossings that require good footing. Wear sturdy shoes and allow plenty of time for the round trip of about 4 kilometers through the forest.
Orange crabs inhabit the rocks surrounding the plunge pool, creating an unexpected wildlife presence at the base of the waterfall. These creatures are adapted to the wet environment and add a layer of life to the forest floor.
