Exploration Place

Exploration Place is a children's museum on the bank of the Arkansas River in Wichita with large-scale exhibits. The collection covers aviation, the human body, and regional discoveries from Kansas, designed for hands-on learning.

The museum was founded in 2000 when the Wichita Omnisphere and Science Center merged with a children's museum. The merger was supported by Velma Lunt Wallace and created a new educational institution for the region.

The facility displays regional aviation heritage through hands-on exhibits that reflect Wichita's role in aircraft manufacturing. Visitors can explore how this industry shaped the city and region over generations.

The museum is open daily and accessible to visitors of all ages with areas suited for different age groups. Plan enough time to fully explore the interactive exhibits since many activities require hands-on participation.

The building features an Island Building surrounded by water that creates an optical effect. The reflecting pond appears to merge with the Arkansas River, producing an interesting visual illusion for visitors.
