Wichita Scottish Rite Center, Masonic temple and multi-purpose hall in downtown Wichita, United States.
The Wichita Scottish Rite Center is a four-story stone building with Romanesque Revival architecture located at the intersection of First Street and Topeka Avenue. The facade shows strong Richardsonian Romanesque features with expressive stonework and arches that give the structure its distinctive character.
The building was originally constructed in 1887 as a YMCA facility and was acquired by Scottish Rite Freemasons in 1898. Significant expansions in 1907 and 1956 shaped its present form and expanded its capacity.
The building functions as a gathering space for community events and educational programs that shape local cultural life. Visitors can observe how the hall hosts lectures, exhibitions, and meetings that bring together people from different backgrounds.
The building is best visited during daytime hours when public events or tours may be scheduled. It is recommended to check in advance when the facility is open for visitors and to contact local administration if you have specific questions.
The building holds dual recognition as both a National Register of Historic Places site and a Kansas Historic Place, which is a distinction not many structures in the area share. This double listing reflects the building's importance to both local and national architectural heritage.
