La Merenda

La Merenda is a restaurant in Nice's old town that uses fresh ingredients bought daily from the Cours Saleya market to prepare its dishes. The dining room is small and intimate, with views into the open kitchen where the chef works.

The restaurant opened in 1966 and changed direction when an experienced chef took over in 1996. This new leadership shaped how the kitchen approach and quality developed.

The restaurant represents Nice's food traditions through dishes like farci, tripe, and local vegetable tarts made from recipes passed down through generations. These foods are part of how people here eat and cook every day.

The place is open Tuesday through Friday with lunch and dinner service at set times. Phone reservations are not taken, so arriving early or being flexible with timing helps get a table.
