The complex was established in 1963 under Mayor Jean Drapeau's vision to expand Montreal's downtown area eastward. Its development was part of a major urban renewal effort of that era.
The venue hosts ballet, symphony concerts, and opera productions performed by resident companies like Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. Visitors experience a wide range of performing arts throughout the year.
