Shimane Prefecture Ancient Izumo History Museum

The Shimane Prefecture Ancient Izumo History Museum displays hundreds of archaeological artifacts from the region, including bronze swords and bells from different periods.

The museum houses National Treasures from the Kojindani archaeological site and the complete version of the Izumo no Kuni Fudoki reports from ancient times.

The permanent collection illustrates the evolution of the Izumo Taisha shrine through models, artifacts, and exhibits that detail its construction methods and religious significance.

Located next to Izumo Taisha shrine grounds, the museum opens daily from 9:00 to 18:00, except on first and third Tuesdays, with an entrance fee of 620 yen.

The museum presents evidence of massive wooden pillars over one meter in diameter, suggesting the main shrine buildings once reached heights of 48 meters.
