Latta Place Historic Site, Plantation museum in Huntersville, North Carolina, US

Latta Place is a plantation complex built in 1800 with a Federal-style mansion and several outbuildings scattered across the property near Mountain Island Lake. The grounds feature a kitchen house, storage structures, and other buildings that together show how a household operated at that time.

The house was founded by James Latta, an Irish immigrant who established the plantation in the early 1800s as his enterprise. The site reflects changes in agricultural operations in the region as farming practices and settlement patterns evolved.

The site illustrates daily life and work routines of people living on a plantation in the early 1800s. Visitors observe how households operated and what tasks shaped the rhythm of each day.

The house can be visited with guided tours, while the grounds are also open for self-guided exploration. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for uneven paths when exploring the various buildings and structures.

The grounds feature rare breeds of historical livestock that were typical of earlier agricultural operations in the area. These animals help visitors understand how farms and plantations actually functioned in daily work.
