SkyCity, defunct revolving restaurant and bar situated atop the Space Needle
Description
SkyCity was a rotating restaurant atop the Space Needle, seating diners at 500 feet above ground level. The dining floor moved gradually on a track system, allowing guests to see the city from all directions without leaving their tables.
History
The restaurant opened in 1962 during the World's Fair under the name Eye of the Needle. It ceased operations in 2017 for major renovations and updates to its facilities.
Practical
The restaurant was located in Queen Anne at 400 Broad Street and required reservations in advance. Valet parking was available for diners.
Did you know?
The rotating platform weighed 125 tons and relied on a small motor to move the restaurant along its track. This mechanical system was an engineering achievement for its era.
